About Springfield Armory

The history of Springfield Armory dates back to the late 18th century when it was established as a notable firearms manufacturing facility by the United States government.

During the American Revolutionary War in 1777, General George Washington ordered the creation of an armory to store and produce muskets for the Continental Army.

The site chosen was in Springfield, Massachusetts, and became known as the Springfield Armory.

Over the years, the Springfield Armory played a crucial role in developing and producing firearms for the United States military.

From muskets and rifles during the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and the American Civil War to the M1 Garand, which became the standard issue rifle for the U.S. military during World War II.

The M14 was another notable firearm developed by Springfield Armory, which served as the primary infantry rifle for the U.S. military in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

However, in 1968, the Springfield Armory was closed as a federal facility as part of a government decision to consolidate firearm production throughout the private sector.

Today, Springfield Armory is still a leading firearms manufacturer known for its high quality, performance, and innovation.

Popular products like the Springfield XD series pistols and M1A rifles are used by law enforcement officers, military personnel, and civilians worldwide.
