About Savage Arms

Savage Arms has a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century.

The company was founded by Arthur William Savage in 1894 in Utica, New York, under the name Savage Arms Company. Arthur Savage was a prolific inventor and entrepreneur who sought to revolutionize the firearms industry.

One of Arthur Savage's notable inventions was the Savage Model 99 lever-action rifle. The Model 99 was known for its rotary magazine, side ejection, and advanced features like a hammerless design and a cartridge counter.

It became one of Savage Arms' most successful and iconic rifles, remaining in production for over 100 years.

During WWI and WWII, Savage Arms played a significant role in supplying firearms to the U.S. military. The company produced various military rifles, including the M1903 Enfield and the M1 Garand, contributing to the war effort.

In the mid-20th century, Savage Arms expanded its product line beyond lever-action rifles by producing bolt-action rifles, pump-action shotguns, semi-automatic shotguns, and pistols.

More recently, in 2019, Savage Arms became part of the Vista Outdoor family of companies, joining a diverse group of outdoor and shooting sports brands.

This merger further strengthened Savage Arms' position in the industry and facilitated its continued growth and innovation.
